Guitar virtuoso Joost Zoeteman is a rising star on the gypsy jazz scene with his emotionally charged, swinging playing. After studying for a time at the Arnhem Conservatory, he decided to focus completely on the style of Django Reinhardt. In New York, he had lessons from Peter Leitch and Roni Ben-Hur. He later toured India and Vietnam, among other places. Zoeteman's reputation grew last year when he toured with the legendary French gypsy musician Tchavolo Schmitt, and together they were the highlighted act at the World Gipsy Festival in Prague. In 2009, Zoeteman released his debut album, Live In Aijen, to critical acclaim. At the North Sea Jazz Festival he will be playing with pianist Hans Kwakkernaat, guitarist Martin Limberger and bass player Taeke Stol, musicians who honor the Django Reinhardt tradition but never back away from an adventure.
