When Marcin Wasilewski and Slawomir Kurkiewicz first met at the Koszalin music school, the two teenagers could never have expected that twenty years later they would have joined the ranks of Poland's major jazz musicians. Together with drummer Michal Miskiewicz they make up the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. This trio owes a lot to trumpeter Tomasz Stanko. Under the name Simple Acoustic Trio, the group travelled many kilometers across Europe with him, performing everywhere. As the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, two years ago the group released the album January on ECM Records. The trio shows on this album that they are one of the best contemporary jazz ensembles around. By also regularly jamming to the Franco-African rhythms of drummer Manu Katché, the Polish musicians demonstrate their musical versatility.
