Eivind Aarset is among the best musicians on the ever-hip Norwegian jazz scene, together with Nils Petter Molvær and Bugge Wesseltoft. The guitarist and composer combines contemporary jazz with electronic effects and a lot of improvisation. The New York Times called his debut album "one of the best post-Miles Davis electric-jazz albums." Aarset started playing guitar after hearing Jimi Hendrix. After a foray into heavy metal, he concentrated more and more on playing jazz. He is a permanent member of the band of trumpeter Molvær and has also pursued a solo career since 1998. Aarset has recorded four albums, all on the Jazzland label of Wesseltoft, the top musician mentioned above. On his latest album Sonic Codex, and on tour, Aarset plays with a six-man lineup that includes drummer Wetle Holte and bass player Audun Erlien. Aarset's music is highly atmospheric and very adventurous.
