Mali and Cuba perform leading parts in world music. British producer Nick Gold and American musical archeologist Ry Cooder are the binding factors. They had a huge success with the Buena Vista Social Club in 1997. Three years earlier, they made Talking Timbuktu, on which Cooder played together with the African blues giant Ali Farka Touré. Gold had also invited Touré in 1997 for the recording sessions with the Buena Vista Social Club in Havana, but because of traveling difficulties this collaboration was mired. Thirteen years later the absolute musical peak of both countries will meet for a unique project. Although Ali Farka Touré died four years ago, he is bound to look down from the heavens on their doings with a benevolent smile. This highly exclusive ensemble will consist of Eliades Ochoa (vocals and guitar), Toumani Diabaté (kora) and Bassekou Kouyaté (ngoni): a world fusion of a supreme level.
