Two unique and individualistic quartets working together in a highly unusual lineup. New Niks play without a bassist and make virtuoso jazz music in which you can hear the influence of Zappa and free jazz as well as blues and swing. Tempo changes and humor make their music theatrical. The Artvark Saxophone Quartet combines astonishing precision playing with groove, daring and strong solos. They play enthralling numbers with passion. The music of New Niks & Artvark Saxophone Quartet together is completely original. Improvisations constantly carry the music to a higher plane. Special compositions have been written for this very unorthodox octet, ranging from the wonderfully tranquil Sweet Sreams to the crazy and hilarious Bo Derek. The group's debut album Busy, Busy, Busy was well received. On the album, the ensemble sometimes sounds like a big band with diverse harmonies and lively music.
