This year, gospel is one of the festival's main themes. Many African-American artists started singing and making music in church when they were young. This has made gospel the most significant African-American musical basis for jazz, blues, soul and funk. On Saturday, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and soul legend Al Green will perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival. American gospel artist Craig Adams was recently added to this lineup. Not only is he one of the most talented pianists, organists and choir directors in Louisiana, he also gained fame as a member of the jury of the US Grammy Gospel Awards. Together with his Voices of New Orleans, Adams was nominated for a Big Easy Entertainment Award in 2004, a prize for artists contributing to the cultural enrichment of New Orleans. He is also well known on the European gospel and jazz scene. All in all, it's high time to get acquainted with him at the North Sea Jazz Festival!
