The Portuguese fado singer Camané is building a successful career and has appeared previously at the North Sea Jazz Festival. While purists argue about whether what Camané does is 'true' fado, modernists admire his innovative approach. Although he never deviates far from the standard lineup of two guitars and bass, he allows in new elements like jazz and bossa nova. And in the end, everyone agrees: Camané is a wonderful singer with tremendous power of expression. For many years, he was half of a golden duo with singer-songwriter and producer José Mária Branco. They released many records together. In 2005, Camané was honored with the Amália Rodrigues Prize and in 2009 he received a Portuguese Golden Globe. The critics proclaimed his latest album, Sempre De Mim (2008) his best work ever. Last year, a DVD of this album tour entitled Camané ao vivo no Coliseu was released.
