It's about time that Macy Gray comes to the North Sea Jazz Festival, because even though she has released five intriguing albums since 1999, she has only performed here once, in 2004. As a teenager, she was bullied because of her singular deep voice, but her sound turned out to be beneficiary when she made it into her trademark. She combines elements of R&B, soul, jazz, hip-hop, funk and pop and turns them into music that is difficult to characterize. Vocalist Macy Gray draws her own plan, she doesn't want to belong to any category. She has, however, sold no fewer than fifteen million records, won several awards and she has already worked with many greats, among whom: Santana, Marcus Miller, Natalie Cole and Justin Timberlake. Gray looks just as mysterious as she sounds and likes to flaunt her appearance, sensuality and spirituality.
