After graduating from Rutgers University, saxophonist and clarinetist Jonathon Haffner went to New York where he performed regularly with drummer Kenny Wollesen. They formed the group Himalayas together. Wollesen also worked with Bill Frisell and John Zorn, so Haffner soon became used to challenging music. This led to participation in Butch Morris's Orchestra Slang, a sixteen-man group that plays complex compositions in a free framework. You can also hear alto saxophonist Haffner in the film The Hottest State, in which Willie Nelson and Norah Jones also participated, and he has performed with Cindy Lauper and The Nublu Orchestra. There has been a lot of variety in the career of this young musician who released his album Life on Wednesday at the end of last year and will be taking part in the Global Brooklyn, N.Y. theme at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
