Concha Buika has been known for some time now as one of Spain's most remarkable artists. Born on the Spanish island of Mallorca, as a child of African parents from Equatorial Guinea she spent a lot of her youth among Spanish gypsies. Given her roots, it's no wonder that she is able like no other to blend flamenco music with other musical styles. Buika has an impressive voice which she uses to allow flamenco, soul, funk and jazz to flow into one another effortlessly. With her debut album Buika in 2005, she personally breathed new life into the genre and even made flamenco music a source of inspiration for jazz music. This is demonstrated on her latest album, El Ultimo Trago, released in 2009, which is a musical tribute to the 90-year-old Costa Rican diva Chavela Vargas.
