Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz played with jazz titans like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker and is still travelling the globe. Konitz (1927) is a unique musician, a survivor: "I'm not yet ready to retire because I'm still experimenting and the results are always good!" Those who know Konitz are aware that he has been playing the song All the Things You Are for over fifty years, but in a different way every time. "That song has a very interesting chord scheme and the melody itself is intriguing too." In his youth, the sax player mainly listened to Johnny Hodges and Benny Carter. The latter for the way he improvised, the former for his sound. In later years, Konitz worked for orchestra leader Stan Kenton and played with Lenny Tristano, Miles Davis (Birth of the Cool), Gerry Mulligan and Gil Evans. With all his experience you could call Konitz a living history book of jazz.
