Everyone in the Netherlands has heard of Wende. Several years ago, this chansonnière captured hearts across the Netherlands with her passionate singing. Her debut album, entitled Quand tu dors (2004), was sung entirely in French and immediately won an Edison Award. But Wende wouldn't be Wende if she didn't take a new direction after this French success, and she explored the possibilities in German, Dutch and Afrikaans. 2007 was Wende's jazz year. She won an Edison Jazz Award and debuted at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Not one to be tied to a single style, she appeared with Bløf at the Uitmarkt festival in Amsterdam at the end of the summer. In March, she was awarded a BUMA Golden Harp. Her latest album, No.9, is her most personal to date. For the first time, all the lyrics are by Wende herself, this time in English.
