Todd Sickafoose is a bassist from Brooklyn. He's a member of the accompanying band of American singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco and, according to The New Yorker, her secret weapon. Sickafoose studied with Charlie Haden; definitely not the least of teachers. With his own formation Blood Orange he has recorded three albums, of which Tiny Resistors is the latest. The lineup of Todd Sickafoose's Blood Orange includes two percussionists, a tenor sax player, a trombone player and a violinist. With this octet, Sickafoose goes for an original approach that appears to be based on improvisation. Yet, Sickafoose is known to compose a lot of his own music. His sound is very similar to free jazz, including the tempo changes and harmony. A benefit is that Sickafoose and his band don't divulge in endless freaking but keep sounding exciting to the end.
