The Metropole Orkest is a regular guest at the North Sea Jazz Festival. These last years, the Dutch orchestra has performed with stars like Chaka Khan, Elvis Costello and Pat Metheny. This time, the orchestra will tune into the festival theme of New York and will play pieces that fit neatly with jazz from this metropolis, such as compositions from Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, songs like Autumn in New York and Theme from Mr. Broadway. American conductor Vince Mendoza conducts a large number of New York's finest and has integrated them in this orchestra. They include the young trumpet wizard Christian Scott, saxophonist Lee Konitz (one of the founders of cool jazz) and Chris Potter (one of the tone-setting tenor saxophonists of this moment).
