Ryan Shaw's debut album This is Ryan Shaw from 2007 was instantly recognized as a musical gem. With his warm, soulful voice, Shaw brings the golden age of the Motown years back to life. He seems to unite the best of both worlds. He was brought by very religious parents in the heart of Georgia and the only music he heard while growing up was gospel music. When Shaw was three yours old he started singing in the local gospel choir. In his teens, this musical education resulted in a role in a gospel musical that also toured "the big city": New York. This is where he started truly appreciating soul music; it marked the budding of his career as a soul vocalist. On his debut album he mixes soul classics with more unusual songs and his own compositions. He effortlessly continues this course on the recently released It Gets Better, of which the catchy single of the same name did extremely well in the Netherlands.
