Trumpeter Bert Lochs and pianist Dirk Balthaus have been playing together regularly for twenty years now. When both Lochs and Balthaus wanted to take a new direction, Lochs introduced Norwegian tuba player Daniel Herskedal. They knew each other from a composition contest at the Hoeilaert Festival in Flanders, Belgium, where they were both finalists in 2004. The sound of Lochs/Balthaus/Herskedal is modest and in the slower passages, the bass tuba and trumpet form a splendid harmony. The music is written by Lochs for the most part, although both other musicians also contribute work. At the beginning of 2009 the trio recorded an album that was well received by the musical press. The trio presented itself for the first time on the Day of Dutch Jazz, which was followed up by a short tour. This unconventional trio has an original, melodious sound and doesn't shy away from tender beauty.
