Pianist Jasper van 't Hof (1947) has a long-standing reputation in many European countries and we consequently see him quite rarely in the Netherlands. In 1973, together with alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano (1923-2009) he formed the group Pork Pie, a jazz-rock band that existed for over thirty years. Other members of the band included guitarist Philip Catherine (1942) and drummer Aldo Romano (1941). Charlie Mariano made several historic albums with Charles Mingus; later he settled in Europe. Shortly before his death last year, Mariano recorded the beautiful album The Great Concert with Van 't Hof and Catherine. Van 't Hof, Catherine, Romano, sax player Bobby Stern and bass player Dieter Ilg will bring a fitting tribute to the charismatic Mariano at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
