In 2003 she was still unknown and singing with the English funk band The New Mastersounds. But after the release of her debut album and the hit single Put Your Records On, Corinne Bailey Rae (30) became famous within one year! The CD + DVD Live in London & New York (2007) was proof that her performance in a live setting and in a studio are equally captivating. Only a short time after her break-through however, the singer had to endure a personal loss: the death of her husband in 2008. For this reason her second studio album, The Sea, was released only recently. It demonstrates she isn't a nine-day wonder. Having had to deal with the drowning of her grandfather as well - she dedicates The Sea to him - she seems to have gained a profundity. Her voice sounds darker, too; the emotional events in her life seem to have found a resonance in her vocal chords. She effortlessly takes her audience on a deep-felt musical journey.
