Caro Emerald is a stylish lady who looks and sings like she has come straight out of the 1950s, but with a contemporary twist. In 2007, Emerald recorded a demo for producers David Schreurs and Jan van Wieringen. Back It Up failed to move at the time, but one year later, Emerald had the opportunity to sing the song live on local television. She was a smash: viewers kept calling to ask where they could buy the single. The album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor followed, inspired by fifties jazz and mambo. The catchy songs and energetic singing attracted attention: the album stayed at number one for weeks and turned gold. The single A Night Like This also reached number one. These days, Emerald plays to sold-out halls across the country and naturally could not be absent from the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2010.
