From the very first beginning, the New Orleans marching-band tradition has been a crucial source of inspiration for the development of jazz music. Seen in that light, the Artists on the Move-program honors a special tradition by giving the current heirs a place of their own at the North Sea Jazz Festival. This year, special guest will be the Gangbé Brass Band from Benin, who is able to mix jazz harmonies from the marching-band tradition with traditional African rhythms and songs from Benin. The result is an exciting blend in which several musical traditions will be blown into the future, so to speak.
