Pianist
Satoh Masahiko is a veteran on the Japanese free-jazz scene and is recognized as one of the pillars of contemporary Japanese jazz. Right from the release of his first album
Palladium in 1969, he has been a celebrated man in his own country. He immediately received the prestigious Japan Jazz Award for this first achievement in his musical career. What followed was a dizzying number of projects and collaborations in which he became especially famous for his qualities as a composer and arranger. Masahiko's music catalogue is impressive and varied as witnessed by, for example,
Buddhist Music with 1000 Syomyo Voices in which he interprets the traditional music of Buddhist monks. His collaboration with
Saifa dates from 2005 when they released the album
Live at Moers.
