For ten years, trumpeter Ruud Breuls and sax player Simon Rigter were in the front line of The Buddies in Soul, a quintet playing in the hard-bop tradition, with pianist Cees Slinger and Rigter in the lead. After the sad death of Slinger in 2007, Breuls and Rigter felt they were not ready to part. A new quintet was formed under the name
Ruud Breuls/Simon Rigter Quintet. Besides this duo, the line-up consists of Karel Boehlee, bassist Jos Machtel and drummer Marcel Serierse. Men who are all part of the cream of the Dutchjazz scene. This novel quintet is working with a brand new repertoire and is able to reach great heights in a live setting, thereby never forfeiting the hard-bop tradition.
