At the end of last year, the career of Colin Benders alias
Kyteman took off like a rocket. His performance at the Noorderslag Festivalin Groningen resulted in countless good reviews for the trumpeter and his large
Hiphop Orkest. His debut album
The Hermit Sessions was released this spring and it too was very well received. Kyteman was raised with jazz, reggae and pop. '
Bitches Brew by Miles Davis is my favorite album. The musical individualism that it exudes is phenomenal.' Before, Kyteman was a member of Dutch pop bands like Voicst and Relax; he also demonstrated his versatility in the Amsterdam Klezmer Band. His hip-hop orchestra consists of twelve musicians and eight rappers. 'It's a kind of guild of musicians and MCs that I recruited from the scene in Utrecht where I come from', explains Kyteman. The result is a live performance that is unique.
