Earlier this year, bassist Ernst Glerum won the VPRO/Boy Edgar award. It was a well-deserved prize for a man who has been a fantastic pioneer for years. The number of projects in which Glerum participated is quite astounding. The bass player, who studied at the renowned Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, is not only active as a musician. The composer Glerum regularly receives acclaim, too. With the
Glerum Omnibus he will play his double bass at the festival, together with drummer Joost Patocka and pianist Ruben Hein. Glerum was born in Deventer and already knew his path in life at a young age. 'I didn't see myself playing in a classical orchestra. Still, besides jazz, classical music is very importantt o me and it is a never-ending challenge to unite the two genres.'This urge for innovation is what brings him to the North Sea Jazz stage once again.
