Ambrose Akinmusire is one of the rising stars of jazz.The man from Oakland, in the San Francisco Bay Area, has, since his very first note, approached the trumpet in a highly original way. For him it is movement that is the key element in his playing. The American is also a gifted and highly original composer. Akinmusire was taught by Terence Blanchard and Billy Childs, among others, and as a professional musician he used to play with people like Joe Henderson, Steve Coleman and Joshua Redman. In 2007, he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. The trumpeter played on albums by Esperanza Spalding and Steve Coleman for example, and released his solo CD
