If you have ever heard
Etienne Mbappé playing the bass, you wil lremember two things: his phenomenal technique and that he plays wearing black silk gloves. Mbappé is regarded as one of the world's best bassists. It's no wonder that he regularly shares the stage with legendary artists. He has toured with Steps Ahead since 2007. In 2010, he will be joining The 4th Dimension, the band of John McLaughlin. Early in his career, Mbappé often played with the Zawinul Syndicate, Salif Keita and the Orchèstre National de Jazz (ONJ) conducted by Atoine Hervé. Mbappé comes from Cameroon and his music is a special mix of rhythms from Cameroon (Makossa, Bolobo, and Sékélé) and modern rhythms. He also sings in Douala, one of Cameroon's many languages. Both the solos and arrangements are of outstanding quality as proved on his albums
Misiya (2005) and
Su LaTaké (2008).
