Drummer
Han Bennink, bassist
Ernst Glerum and pianist
Michiel Borstlap, three giants on their own turf. When former Philips boss Cor Boonstra suggested they should record an album at his house, the kindred spirits immediately took up his offer. The result was the well-received album
Monk Vol. 1. On it the three sublimely honored the heritage of pianist Thelonious Monk, in a very special way. For example, Bennink only plays on his snare drum on all pieces. The BBG trio has been creating a name for themselves since 1997; they were already playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1998.They have also performed in the States and Australia. Their individual improvisation talents have been amalgamated into an exciting collective that is controlled by the moment. Glerum plays his double bass like no other, Bennink directs in his very own way and Borstlap demonstrates he is a master of timing. This is what makes this trio so special.
