Anthony Braxton is one of the giants of free improvised music. A man who exerts great influence, for example on the young John Zorn (this year's artist in residence). Zorn heard Braxton's album
For Alto (1968) in his youth and it made a tremendous impression on him. Antony Braxton (1945) plays various reed instruments and also holds a degree in philosophy. Over the years he has composed ane normous oeuvre. As a member of the legendary Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), Braxton became a leade rin free jazz. He later worked with, among others, Chick Corea, Derek Bailey, Max Roach and Willem Breuker. If you listen quietly to Braxton's music, you will hear tension, humor, surprises and ecstasy. Braxton performs with his
Diamond Curtain Wall Trio in which he not only plays the sax but also uses an electronic Super Collider program. In this way he creates, as it were, a fourth member of the line-up alongside guitarist
Mary Halvorson and cornet player
Taylor Ho Bynum.
