If
Anne Guus Teerhuis asks you to open your mouth, you'd better beware. For this gifted pianist is also a dentist. On the other hand Teerhuis (1981) graduated from the conservatory in Groningen (2007) with the highest honors. Last year, he played at the North Sea Jazz Festival as one of the finalists in the Dutch Jazz Competition. This year, the dentist-pianist took off like a shooting star because he won the YPF Jazz Piano concours 2009 at the Bimhuis on 25 January. 'Anne Guus is very artistic and is able to tell a creative story with his music', according to fellow pianist Michiel Borstlap, who spoke on behalf of the jury that comprised other pianists like Antonio Farao, Jacky Terrasson and Bobo Stenson. So Teerhuis was awarded the prize by true professionals. The pianist will perform together with bassist Glenn Gaddum and drummer Kristijan Krajncan. The latter, a good friend with whom heh as played for some time now, the former, a young bass player from Alkmaar with roots in Surinam.
