The Norwegian trio
In The Country revolves mainly around Morten Qvenild. In his home country, this pianist is an innovator who earlier was part of the bands Jaga Jazzist and Shining. In 2003, together with his fellow students Roger Arntzen and Pal Hausken he formed In The Country. When the trio released its debut album
This Was The Pace of My Heartbeat in 2005, it was soon clear that their music had an appeal far beyond the borders of Norway. Over the past years, In The Country has performed in both Europe and America. The trio's latest album
Losing Stones, Collecting Bones was released in 2006. Qvenild wrote all the pieces on that album on which Tom Waits' guitarist Marc Ribot was a guest. In The Country is definitely not a traditional piano trio because the musicians use electronics and a wide variety of instruments. Stylistically, the music shifts from baroque to rock and from classical music to jazz.In The Country is a truly exciting band.
