Bart Wirtz is one of the up-and-coming Dutch jazz talents. His debut album
Prologue is surprisingly inspired, authentic and yet oriented towards the modern. On this record, he also shows his flexibility and above all his versatility in style and execution. Even while he was studying at the Rotterdam Conservatory, Wirtz won several prestigious prizes, such as the Erasmus Jazz Prize, the Leiden Jazz Award and the Breda Jazz Prize. These days, Wirtz belongs to the line-up of Monsieur Dubois, Young Sinatras, Artvark Saxophone Quartet, Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and his own Bart Wirtz Quartet. At North Sea Jazz, Wirtz will demonstrate, on his home ground that the Rotterdam jazz scene has both talent and a future, accompanied by Jasper Soffers, Jeroen Vierdag, Joost van Schaik and Tim Eijmaal.
Prologue, that includes eight of his much talked-about compositions, was only a foretaste of all the good things to come.
