Turkish born
Timuçin Şahin is currently one of the most exciting guitarists on the contemporary jazz scene. With his emotionally charged pieces, he makes entirely 'individual' compositions that are difficult to categorize. Sahin left his homeland in 1992 to obtain a master's degree from the conservatories in Amsterdam and Hilversum. Nine years later he won his first major prize, the DutchJazz Competition. The 35-year-old fretless, double-neck electric guitar specialist now lives in New York and works there with musicians like Randy Brecker, Tony Moreno and Mark Turner. He gives lessons at famed music schools throughout the world and has composed for the Amsterdam Percussion Group. Sahin is widely acclaimed for his live performances in which improvisation and composed music flow seamlessly into one another. With his quartet, he will put on a virtuoso fusion-jazz show at the North Sea Jazz Festival, bursting with classical influences and dark grooves.
