During the last edition of North Sea Jazz, The Mars Volta nearly blew the roof off Ahoy with their wicked, jazzy freak rock. If you appreciated the spectacular show of these raging Americans last year, be sure to take a look at
The New Earth Group. This Rotterdam band plays a mixture of instrumental rock and acid jazz, with the velocity of a high speed train. The group also regularly gets inspired by legendary pop songs, which creates a unique result. The New Earth Group drags the audience along on a freaky energetic ride, in which wonderful melodies are alternated with long, intense grooves and tearing saxophone solos. When the six performed at Noorderslag, where they played their complete, self-titled debut album, full of progressive freak jazz, they were a resounding success.
