At a young age,
Silje Nergaard was already convinced she would become a singer. At the age of sixteen the dream of the Norwegian came true, when she performed on a jazz stage for the first time. Since that time, Nergaard has released eleven albums and worked together with renowned artists like Al Jarreau and Pat Metheny. In her early years, Nergaard was mainly inspired by Joni Mitchell and this can clearly be heard. Just like the American, Nergaard sings with a beautiful and, most of all, crystal-clear voice, that often creates emotionally charged moments and makes her performances fragile and memorable. On her latest record,
A Thousand True Stories (2009), another dream came true for the 43-year-old vocalist, because she was able to work together with her favorite arranger-conductor
Vince Mendoza and our own
Metropole Orkest Strings. At North Sea Jazz, the Norwegian diva and the orchestra will give an encore and perform live.
