In the Netherlands Antilles,
Izaline Calister is a superstar. Born in Curacao, the vocalist studied in Groningen, the Netherlands, and became known with the band Pili Pili. In 1998 she formed the Izaline Calister Band with musicians from Curacao, Aruba and the Netherlands. After her debut, in 2000, with
Sonõ di un Muhé, things sped up for her. Calister writes her lyrics in Papiamento, her mother tongue. On her latest CD,
Speransa, meaning hope, Calister demonstrates she is a superior lyricist and a versatile vocalist. During this festival, she will perform with her own band comprising, among others, jazz guitarist Ed Verhoeff and drummer Roël Calister.
