Blue Note artist
Aaron Parks eagerly pushes back the boundaries of jazz music and, with his progressive jazz, he frequently flirts with styles like indie rock and hip-hop. The 25-year-old American belongs to a new generation of innovative jazz musicians who are not afraid to step across the line. Parks, who grew up in Seattle (home of grunge) started out studying maths, computer science and music. At the age of sixteen, however, he moved to New York to devote his time fully to music. Parks learned the finer details of the craft from legendary pianist Kenny Baron, after which he played in the quintet of Terence Blanchard for several years. With this trumpeter he made a Grammy Award winning album in 2007,
A Tale ofGod's Will (A Requiem for Katrina), based on the Spike Lee film
When the Levees Broke, about the hurricane that devastated New Orleans. Last year, Parks released his fifth album entitled
Invisible Cinema which was very well received.
