When
Raul Midón stood on the North Sea Jazz stage for the second time, in 2007, he confused India.Arie with Trijntje Oosterhuis. The blind soul singer was immediately forgiven, because he could have sung a beautiful duet with both ladies that evening. Midón, who started his musical career as a background vocalist, is a man of many talents. His mouth trumpet playing is a true feast for theears and eyes. With his exuberant podium presence, the American singer and guitarist is able to make classical soul accessible to a large audience. Without any effort, Midón is able to alternate smooth 70s' soul with deep funk and Latin. Especially on his latest album,
A World Within a World (2007), this diversity can be well heard. The New York resident, who used to work with greats like Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder, is working on the successor oft hat successful album, although at the moment his attention is focused on completing his world tour.
