With groups like SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS, Sleep Walker and
Quasimode, Japans seems to be the sole purveyor of club jazz.Whereas at the turn of the century DJs were seen as Gods, the Japanese bands mentioned above have launched a counter-movement. Live music, and particularly jazz, became the new cool on the Japanese club scene in those years. DJs lose ground to spectacular live music. And also to the jazz from the 60s and 70s that Quasimode successfully introduces to clubbers, albeit with a slight Latin flavor. Not only does the quartet build on their solid reputation for live performances, they are also able to break ground as a remixing and producer collective. This has not gone unnoticed in this part of the world, as shown by the very high ratings on the yearly lists of music gurus like the BBC DJ GillesPeterson.
