Phantom Orchard is the name of a collaborative project between
Ikue Mori and
Zeena Parkins, two heavyweights on the New York avant-garde scene. The result is described as an impressionistic depiction of an electronic landscape. A linking of ambiences and sounds that together form a monumental sound sculpture. It is no wonder that the two ladies are famed for their quest for the experimental and have thus become trendsetting pioneers in the field of instrumental music. Ikue Mori started out as a drummer in the post-punk age in the No Wave band from New York, DNA, where she quickly discovered the drum computer. Combined with her laptop, she has now made this into a multi-instrument with which she seems to create an endless variety of sounds, from the soft and lyrical to sounds that assault the heavens. At the end of the 80s, Zeena Parkins played an important role in the development of the electronic harp and she is able to combine acoustic and digital sounds like no other.
