The Colombian band leader
Edmar Castaneda has been playing the harp since he was thirteen. His style is unique because theLatin-American combines Latin jazz and traditional music from his country. The harp is used a lot in Colombian music, and Castaneda has succeeded in translating his harp playing into a jazzy environment. The style of his percussion is unique; sometimes you can even get the impression you are listening to a flamenco guitarist. Since his move to the United States in 1994, Castaneda has become a great name in the world of jazz. He has already played with artists like, among others, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, guitarist JohnScofield and saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera. This spring, Castaneda's second album,
Entre Guerdas, was released, presenting, not only Scofield, but also vibraphonist Joe Locke. Castaneda is a virtuoso harpist using a bop idiom.
