Matthias Schriefl comes from the Allgäu. In this region of southernGermany you will still find a lot of "Lederhosen" (knee breeches made of leather) but there is nothing old-fashioned about the music of this trumpeter. His first album
Shreefpunk plus Strings (ActMusic, 2007) was a true creative work. Schriefl plays trumpet and(more often) bugle; he has a rock-solid tone and a great feeling for flair. He writes all the arrangements himself; they are sometimes sentimental, sometimes experimental and often very sophisticated. Serious passages interspersed with unexpectedout bursts. Schriefl, now living in Cologne, makes music with a keen sense of humor that fearlessly crosses the boundary into modern-classical music. Moreover, he effortlessly adds a raw musical edge to romantic passages. Schriefl identifies strongly with his band
Shreefpunk. 'The compositions I write for this band should be seen as a personal diary.'
