Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich's band is the logical continuation of saxophonist Yuri Honing's successful cross-over group Orient Express. Alongside Honing himself, bassist Tony Overwater and drummer Joost Lijbaart remain and the ensemble is strengthened by guitarist Maarten van der Grinten. It became clear that the collaboration between Khcheich and the members of the Yuri Honing ensemble should be continued when, after the war in Lebanon, the singer came to Amsterdam for an exclusive performance at the World & Peace Festival. The chemistry between the Lebanese singer and the Dutch musicians was so special that they immediately made plans for concerts and they recorded a CD. Khcheich's repertoire consists of traditional and modern, Arabic songs that her band plays in Western arrangements with Arabic influences. The music of the band is a perfect example of how two musical cultures can forge an equal balance. The album Falak will be released in the fall but will already be available in a special edition at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
