Dweezil Zappa was born in 1969 when his father Frank was working on the album Hot Rats. This past year, Zappa junior locked himself up to be able to properly play his father's music. By studying hard he learned much more about the often complex music of Frank Zappa, the anarchic avant-garde icon of pop music. In spring this year Dweezil began touring with his Zappa Plays Zappa band, a formation of hand-picked young musicians that travels around Europe under the name Tour de Frank. Dweezil's study taking a whole year seems a bit over the top, but when you realize that only the best musicians can play Zappa's complicated scores - often a mélange of Chuck Berry and Edgar Varèse - you'll know better. Dweezil will record a solo album this year on which he will play the famous song Peaches en Regalia as a virtual guitar duet with his father, who died in 1993. Additionally, he will release a Zappa Plays Zappa record at the end of this year; an audio report of what he learned in the year he studied Zappa.
