The career of young Italian pianist Giovanni Guidi was jump-started by the father of Italian jazz, Enrico Rava. The trumpeter discovered Guidi during a master class program in Siena and a short while later the pianist was in Rava's band Rava under 21 as well as the Rava New Generation. This brought him to the attention of many musicians. He was asked to play with the Mauro Negri Quartet and he also quickly began to establish his own bands. Guidi showcases his talents as a composer and performer in his quartet that comprises other young musicians. His music is influenced by contemporary pop music and he uses unusual harmonic structures and his great feel for melody to create his own personal style. Alongside his own compositions, Guidi's quartet plays fresh interpretations of music that varies from Ornette Coleman to Radiohead and Björk.
