Ryan Shaw is a young soul singer with a powerful, expressive voice, who doesn't only write gorgeous songs, but also continues to find long-lost jewels from cult groups like the Combo Kings and the Sharpees. And of course he has also found golden oldies by Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson and Bobby Womack and has given them a brand-new interpretation. Because Shaw's parents were members of the Pentecostal church he listened almost exclusively to gospel. He used to sing in church and formed the Shaw Boys with his four brothers. He went to university but quickly decided to audition for the gospel musical A Good Man is Hard to Find. He got the part and ended up in musical circles which eventually brought him to New York. After a while Shaw started to perform on the club circuit with soul classics and he was discovered by producers Jimmy Bralower and Johnny Gale. Together with them he made This is Ryan Shaw, an album filled with fantastic songs, all containing meaningful lyrics and powerful melodies.
