2007 was a big year for the young Amsterdam band Room Eleven, no doubt about it. Their debut album Six White Russians and a Pink Pussycat remained in the album top-50 until a year after its release. Its successor Mmm… Gumbo? immediately entered the top-10. The band drew the attention of the Dutch music scene because of the catchy mix of roots - blues, jazz and soul. Room Eleven is the band of singer-songwriter Janne Schra and composer-guitarist Arriën Molema. Schra's singing has been compared with Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt. Still, she is able to add a personal twist that can even be called vulnerable, to these influences. Although nostalgia is an important factor in Room Eleven's music, they are completely up-to-date. The band recently ended a very successful tour in Japan.
