The duo Javier Girotto & Luciano Biondini combines neo-classical compositions and folk music with improvisations based on free tango. Girotto, who is Argentino by birth and lives in Italy, is a sax player and talented composer who was educated at Boston's famous Berklee College of Music. He is known for his inspired playing in the Aires Tango Quartet where he unites tango melodies and improvised music. In his ensemble with Italian, classically trained accordionist Biondini, who was a serious accordion student at ten and is known to be an incredible soloist, everything is possible and Girotto even surpasses himself. On their album Tierra Madre the virtuoso duo explores a broad musical spectrum of mood and color. The melancholy sound of the tango is more than present, but a lighter, Southern European tone can also be heard.
