The Dominican pianist Michel Camilo is an irresistible live act; this can be ascertained from the fact that he received the Grammy for best latin jazz album recently. Camilo - who is regarded the ambassador of latin jazz - received the award for his double album Live at the Blue Note, which offers a melange of jazz and Latin rhythms that groove terrifically. He can work wonders with his trio, but he is also able to achieve this sound with a big band or even solo; he is a true musical jack-off-all-trades. Not many people know that the artist, who was born and raised in Santo Domingo, also feels at home in the classical genre, as he proved with his album Concerto for Piano & Orchestra, Suite for Piano, Strings and Harp & Caribe. With his trio, consisting of bass player Charles Flores and drummer Dafnis Prieto, Camilo is best enjoyed.
