Bert Lochs is one of the few trumpeters who not only plays in the horn sections of jazz and pop bands but is also busy extending the limits of jazz improvisation. He was taught by jazz greats like Ack van Rooijen and Rob Madna and played across Europe with bands including Big Bizar Habit, Handsome Harry Company and Bert Lochs Inquisitive Quartet (BLIQ). Lochs has a warm tone, particularly on the flugelhorn that can sound exuberant and intimate at the same time. As a composer too Lochs has developed steadily: he made it to the final of the Hoeilaert Jazz Festival with his composition One for Me. Lochs' trumpet technique demonstrates that he is a great embouchure specialist (embouchure is the way in which a wind instrumentalist places his lips on the mouthpiece). His most recent album is aptly entitled Mouth Pieces.
