The Young Sinatras have grown from a group of boisterous conservatory students who interpreted Sinatra and Count Basie classics into a big band with a vision. In the five years since their establishment, their repertoire has been expanded and now includes interpretations of pop songs alongside jazz classics. Their playing is complex, the arrangements are new and moreover, two singers joined and left the Young Sinatras (Tom Gäbel en Wouter Hamel) before they found the perfect match in their current singer Paul van Kessel. The album This Day was released recently and it demonstrates the maturity of this young band. The CD contains some surprising interpretations including People are Strange (The Doors), Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder) and Billie Jean (Michael Jackson) as well as jazz standards like Detour Ahead and Moon River.
